Lessons I picked up along the way to improve athletic performance

After 30+ years in elite level swimming as a swimmer and a swimming coach, I have been able to reflect on all of the lessons I picked up along the way to improve athletic performance.
πŸ’‘What would I have done differently?
πŸ’‘As an athlete, I wish I...
πŸ’‘What did I do well?
πŸ’‘I wish they knew that...

I have always leaned towards the impact of mental skills on performance.
Mental skills (not to be confused with mental health) are directly related to an athlete's level of training and competition results. Like physical skills, mental skills must be practiced. And like physical skills, some mental skills come naturally to some and not to others; but that doesn't mean they can't be developed.

As coaches, it is important to be equipped with the right questions to trigger athletes' thoughts to help them learn and understand themselves better.
πŸ‘‰πŸΎ How do you help the team improve?
πŸ‘‰πŸΎ How do you handle pressure?
πŸ‘‰πŸΎ What did you hear me say?
πŸ‘‰πŸΎ What do you do to help yourself?

My mission is to help coaches and athletes have a more effective and efficient partnership to improve athletic performance. There are 2 sides to a partnership - I strengthen both sides!

✨ It all boils down the COMMUNICATION ✨Β
